Okay, we all know there are big TVs out there… But what if you want a really, really big TV?

The video wall matrix is a great solution! Here we are setting up a 2×2 system on a freestanding floor stand. That’s 2 displays wide by two displays high. Each display is 55″ diagonal and the gap in between each display is only .3 mm!

Like a 120″ diagonal or a 240″ diagonal? Or want split screens so you can have multiple games playing at once? Perhaps you own a Network Operations Center where you need to see what’s going on…. Maybe you’re performing surgery and need additional clarity.

The planar matrix video wall is an alternative when a large display is needed and a projector is not suitable due to ambient light or throw requirements.

The standard configuration of the video wall matrix is 4 displays and it can be expanded in increments of 4. A single input can be scaled to fill up all displays or just a portion of the displays.

The planar video wall matrix has its own unique mounting system to assure proper alignment between each panel.

After each panel is physically mounted, we calibrate each set for a uniform picture! (ISF calibration comes standard with any matrix video wall setup)

1. Underestimating the budget. The big items, projector, screen, speakers and receiver are usually thought about and budgeted for- what about the other items? Surge protection to protect your equipment and to give you the best quality and noise free picture and sound. Quality cables and interconnects to hookup all your new gear. Mounting hardware and/or a rack for proper ventilation. A universal remote control (see number 5 below)

2. Orienting the room correctly/ sizing the room to take advantage of “room modes.” If you have control over the room dimensions, you can actually improve the quality of the sound by changing the room dimensions before construction. One of the worst configurations is a sqaure room with the ceiling height a multiple of the length, like an 18x18x9′ room. Also consider the walkways and aisles when picking out your seating.

3. Correct wiring and speaker placement. Sometimes there are no good options- but correct speaker placement within the room can make a world of difference in regard to the soundstage. Also consider wiring not just for a 7.1 system, but a 9.2 system with dual subwoofers and front high or front wide speakers.

4. Sightlines and risers-you sit down, relax and what do you know, someone’s head is covering up the score. When you have 7.5′ ceilings, there aren’t too many options- but if you have the ceiling height, make sure you consider a platform so that everyone has an unobstructed view.

5. Master remote contol- nothing is more frustrating than trying to put a movie on while the kids are screaming… or getting a call while you are at work- “honey, how do i turn a movie on??” Its the little things in life that you appreciate the most. Like being able to press one button and immediately enjoy the movie.

A great home theater is more than just a stack of equipment, its an experience for the whole family to enjoy. By taking a little time to think about the design- you can get the most enjoyment from your new system.

Yes, bacon is delicious on pizza! I’m here at vaso’s kitchen, having a business lunch with the owner of kolas tv, and he’s never even heard of bacon on a pizza. Home automation is kind of the same. Need a tv mounted, no problem. Want to control your lights, thermostat, and tv from one remote, no problem. Want to do it all from your ipad? No problem.
Sure, you can have anything you want- even bacon

A good system requires wire, even with all the wireless technology available. Once the walls are closed up, we sure don’t want to run more wire (but we are experts at retrofitting wire too).

Having multiple access points forming a virtual cell will give the homeowner seamless coverage in every area of their house…. will add more later.

Control4 recently released the flagship HC800 controller. It’s smaller- only 1U tall, it’s faster, it’s less expensive than the HC1000 (without a hard drive though) and it becomes the core of your new home automation system. It does not come with rack ears though; you have to order those separately.

Nine years ago when we started this business, we focused it around what we knew best at the time- Computers! PC and Mac hardware and software support for small business and residential clients.

After getting a few years into the business and developing it to some extent, I decided to take the business in a different direction…enter the home theater business! Why home theaters? Because it’s cool! Home electronics, automation, and all kinds of gadgets! Not only do we get to “play” with cool technology, we make people happy and their lives easier! I’ve always thought it would be neat to be an “imagineer” (that’s Disney-speak for the wizards that put the rides and scences together- they make the magic happen).

We run a service based business- we provide the knowledge, and the people with the right experience to help save time and money.

If you’ve done any research on home theaters or home automation systems you know that there are a plethora of choices and brands and features and you could spend weeks and weeks doing the research yourself. That’s where we can help you make the right choices.

I enjoy what I do, but still find it tiresome at times. Demanding clients who want everything but don’t want to pay the price, employees, and the neverending stream of calls and to-do lists… It’s the life of a small business owner facing growing pains due to success. On the bright side, being busy during a recession is one of the best problems to have!
